Assistant Chief: Rick Cronin
Rick will serve as Assistant Chief for 2011. Rick joined the department at age 16 in 1986 and is in his 25th year in the fire service. Rick has been the Fire Chief from 1996 through 2002; and again in 2006, and from mid-2008 through 2010, for a total of 10 1/2 yrs as Chief. He has also previously held the Assistant Chief's position in 1995, 2007 and part of 2008; as well as Captains' positions in 1989, 1991 and 1994. He was also on the Board of Directors from 2003 through 2005. Rick was chosen as Firefighter of the Year in 1988 and 1992 by the department membership. Rick was a certified South Dakota Fire Service Instructor for many years. He is very knowledgeable on I.S.O. requirements and was instrumental with having the city and fire department reclassified from a class 6 to a class 4 rating in 2003.
Rick has extensive background in the Fort Pierre Fire Department as he grew up with his dad; two brothers; and one sister on the department. Currently, two of his brothers and a nephew are on the department with him and his son Nate is in the fire cadet program. He hopes his daughter Kaycee will look into the cadet program when she is old enough. Rick is very proud of his family of firefighters as well as the rest of the members for sacrificing their time & efforts to help others in need.
